Lotus 23b Restoration

23 Notes

A ‘ground up’ restoration was completed on this chassis in 2007.  The car was stripped down and the chassis was glass beaded to remove old finish.

All suspect tubes were replaced with seamless mild steel tubing.  Of course all water and oil transfer tubes were replaced suspect or not! Chassis work was done on a 6’ x 8’ cast aluminum flat plate to insure accuracy.  Nickel-silver brazing was used to join most of the tubes.  Tig welding was employed to attach the new roll bar, fabricated from 4130 chrome moly tubing.

The chassis was glass beaded again (this method is the least harmful to the Material) in preparation for powder coating.

All components were either rebuilt to original or better than original spec.  New stainless hard brake lines, fuel cell, fuel cell tank, wiring loom, several gauges are just a few of the new items installed.

I think you will agree – she turned out just fine!!
